Or at least that’s what most people thought about the idea of putting on a second Bike Shed exhibition just a few months after the first, and to be fair, they were probably right. It was all because the first event worked so well, but it left us feeling like we’d only told half the story. Read More >Flaming13http://www.blogger.com/profile/00758658278213616998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7914331987960917320.post-88367655319681136182013-10-03T16:32:00.000+01:002013-10-03T16:33:18.860+01:00

The Lawless Highway
from Deus ex Machina
With Adrian in town for only a few days, we convinced him to take some time out of his busy schedule and come racing with us. All we had to do was decide where…
Finding a sweet open road where you’re not stuck behind traffic or dodging dogs ain’t always easy, but at the Temple we like to think outside the box. The new Benoa toll road is ready, but not open yet, so we managed to sneak in there like a couple of bandits and tear it up on the fresh tarmac. Suddenly we had the opportunity every rider dreams of in Bali, and we had it all to ourselves.Flaming13http://www.blogger.com/profile/00758658278213616998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7914331987960917320.post-29817654442926084442013-09-30T19:00:00.000+01:002013-09-30T19:00:05.562+01:00Junior Burrell, American Craftsman

Back in August 2013, we were fortunate enough to be invited to check out FAILE'S studio and Patrick was kind enough to give us a quick tour and speak about their new art and the preparation for their upcoming show at the Dallas Contemporary opening Sept 21st.

FAILE is a collaboration between Brooklyn-based artists, Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller. The two first met 20 years ago and, since 1999, have worked together as FAILE, constructing multimedia installations, large-scale paintings and sculptures that have helped to change the perception of the Street Art genre.

Although FAILE initially operated outside of the mainstream contemporary art world, they quickly garnered awareness on a public level thanks to their ground-breaking use of materials, images and technology. McNeil and Miller’s culture-driven iconography and visual imagery blends high and low culture in a symbiotic way. Their practice continues to be informed by simultaneously creating works in studio and on the street.

http://www.faile.net
http://www.dallascontemporary.orgFlaming13http://www.blogger.com/profile/00758658278213616998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7914331987960917320.post-40316345346774211852013-09-26T10:48:00.000+01:002013-09-26T10:48:30.333+01:00SCRAM AFRICA 2013
SCRAM AFRICA 2013 (Short Film) from Fuel Bespoke Motorcycles on Vimeo.

Woolie's Workshop and the Deus Ex Machina-Emporium of Postmodern Activities present:
-MOTO GRIGIO-

Moto Grigio is Michael Woolaway’s latest addition to the Deus Ex Machina arsenal. The bike’s namesake is a vintage Ferrari paint called Grigio Scuro. A simplified translation of the term from Italian into English—dark grey—does the name little justice. It’s a complex hue that shifts from dark grey to near black in different lights. Pairing this color with the aggressive silhouette of Moto Grigio, the bike cuts an imposing figure.

Hand built in Woolie’s Workshop at The Emporium of Postmodern Activities, the Kawasaki W650 engine was punched out to 800cc, features FCR flat slide carburetors and stainless steel headers that flow into a Supertrapp exhaust kitted out with hand made hangers. The custom-made tank and seat marry ideas of new and old. The tank shape is inspired by classic TT style road racers while the seat models itself after current Moto2 bikes. The competition-spec inspiration extends throughout the build with a laundry list of race-ready parts. The wheels sport Sun rims, Buchanan stainless steel spokes and nipples, and knock off hubs from Durelle Racing. The adjustable offset triple clamps are also from Durelle Racing and link up with black anodized Ohlins forks that have been re-valved, re-lengthened, and re-sprung. A Motion Pro Revolver throttle, Brembo brake and ASV clutch lever call the Woodcraft clip-on bars home. The enormous flat track rear brake set-up incorporates a Grimeca caliper and Brembo master cylinder, while up front the Beringer six piston brake meets a Brembo rotor and lever for huge stopping power. A custom chromoly swingarm links up to Works Performance shocks. Finishing touches include a digital dashboard from Motogadget and custom seating from C&C Motorcycle Seats.
The official video of the second edition of the Wheels & Waves.

Why did we bring together motorcycles and surfing for a second event ?
A question that we are often being asked.
The answer lies in the notion of freedom that is drawn from these two disciplines - and the resulting danger and adrenaline that are two significant and common reactions.
"Riding" is addictive, we are in need of this vital energy.
Wheels and Waves is a unique opportunity for us to gather and share our passions in a stunning region and environment.
We've loved making and living this event, the story is far from over as we imagine new surprises for the next edition.

See you soon!

"In his own words, Shinya Kimura is a motorcycle mechanic. To the rest of the world, Shinya is an artist, building kinetic sculptures that are and very labor intensive, one-of-a-kind, and ultimately utilitarian. Raised in Tokyo, he moved to LA about a decade ago to actually escape his growing fame and to quietly go on with his life as a mechanic. Acclaim has annoyingly still followed him. His bikes are tough, perfectly made machines that are thrilling to ride. In this film, Danielle explores briefly why motorcycles and what makes the work compelling for Shinya, and the feeling he gets while riding. The film is a supplement to the third issue of On Paper Magazine."

The FIA Formula 1 World Championship entry list does not have a number 13. The number is generally considered to be an unlucky number. It was used in the early years of the sport but in the 1920s it was dropped after the Delage factory team suffered two fatal accidents with the number in the course of just a few months. The first was Paul Torchy, who crashed into a tree during the San Sebastian Grand Prix in September 1925.

That was the last major international event of the year and the Delage factory team did not reappear until the Targa Florio in Sicily in April 1926. Italian Count Giulio Masetti was in the number 13 on that occasion and was killed when his car went up an embankment and overturned near the village of Sclafani Bagni, near Caltavuturo. He was crushed beneath the car.

The second occasion was in 1976 when Divina Galica tried to qualify for the British Grand Prix in a Surtees entered by Nick Whiting, brother of the FIA’s Formula 1 Race Director Charlie Whiting. She failed to qualify.

Other countries have unlucky numbers, notably the Japanese. They do not think the number 4 is lucky. Thus when Tyrrell employed Satoru Nakajima and later Ukyo Katayama both raced the number 3.
In Europe, the winter can seem unending, the time of year when we are
consigned to dwell interminably in our garages, neon lights may be bright
but they can never truly replicate sunlight...
But there is a cure, we have been planning an end of winter trip to the
Basque country since last summer with our friend Fede at Loser Machine and Bixente, a ride for a Wheels and Waves 2013 reunion.
A band of brothers, 20 in all. However with the unpredictable
seasonal conditions we are taking a gamble, but still we have ploughed
through all conditions before and shall do again.
The ride is a total of 240km, and we are planning it for June, so it should
be perfect riding : A combination of beautiful nature and a rare
countryside found in these traditional lands, far from the polluted towns
and cities that so many of us are forced to call home. Mountains are found
in abundance as are the twists on the long empty stretches of road, which
are themselves much like racing circuits, in short, a dreamlike wonderland.
Anybody who loves bikes will get that longed for Endorphin rush and a
heavenly bike connection.

Vivement Juin.
